Vijay’s Nanban collects Rs 57 cr in first weekend at Box Office



The long Sankranthi weekend turned out to be a blessing for Nanban, as it had a dream run at the Tamil Box Office (BO). The Kollywood film released on January 12 has made a record-breaking business at the BO.
If the trade reports are to be believed, Nanban has raked in Rs 57 crore at the Tamil Box Office in the four-day weekend. Witnessing 90% occupancy on single screens and multiplexes, it collected close to Rs 15 crore on the opening day itself.
Nanban was released in 450 theatres in Tamil Nadu of which 27 screens in Chennai. The movie simultaneously hit the screens in Australia, UK, USA, Malaysia, Singapore, and others countries.
However, Nanban directed by Shankar also stars Jeeva, Srikanth, and Sathyraraj in the important roles. The movie is a remake of Bollywood blockbuster 3 Idiots.

Rs 2 Crores for Kolaveri..!!



3 is a film which has Dhanush and Shruthi Haasan in the lead roles. This film is being directed by Aishwarya Dhanush. Anirudh who is a new comer is composing music for this film. It cannot be denied that the song Why This Kolaveri Di has created lots of expectations for this film.
So far no song has created such records. The crew of 3 is discussing how to shoot this most popular song in a best manner.
At this juncture the sponsors of this film have shelled out Rs 2 Crores to shoot this song sequence. The shooting of this song sequence is to take place in VGP Resorts.

Best of Kollywood 2011: Vijay beats Ajith, Surya, Vikram



Vijay‘s blockbuster Velayudham has been voted as the Best Movie of 2011. The year-end poll conducted by SouthDreamz.com for various categories gave opportunity for our readers to choose the Best of Kollywood in 2011 and they have given thumbs up for not only Kavalan star’s movie but also for his performance in the film.
The closest competitor for Velayudham is Mankatha. While, Vijay‘s film secured 46.9% votes, Ajith starrer film received 31.9% votes. The remaining movies like Vikram‘s Deiva Thirumagal, Surya‘s 7am Arivu and Jeeva’s Ko got 10.4%, 7.3% and 3.5% votes, respectively.
In the Best Actor category, Vijay (Velayudham) and Ajith (Mankatha) received 46.6% and 30.9% votes. Whereas, Vikram, Surya and Dhanush together got 22.5% vote for their films Deiva Thirumagal, 7aam Arivu and Aadukalam.
Surprisingly, Anjali beats Anushka in the Best Actress category. While the former got 35.2% votes for her performance in Engeyum Eppodhum, the latter secured 29.9% for her role as a lawyer. In fact, Richa Gangopadhyay for her performance in Mayakkam Enna gave tough competition to Anushka and just lost to her with a margin of 3.4% votes. Actresses Iniya and Yasmin Ponnapa were also in the race for their films Vaagai Sooda Vaa and Aaranya Kaandam.
Velayudham has won the honours in the Best Musician category too. Vijay Anthony, who composed some wonderful tracks, narrowly won the race by getting 39% vote. Once again, Mankatha has lost it toVelayudham. Yuvan Shankar Raja received 36% votes. However, Engeyum Kadhal (Harris Jayaraj), Aadukalam (G.V Prakash Kumar) and Osthi (S Thaman) were the other contenders.
A.R Murugadoss‘ former associate Saravanan has been voted as the Best Director of the year for his debut movie Engeyum Eppodhum. He almost got 50% vote and his nearest competitor was Vetrimaran for Aadukalam. Mysskin (Yuddham Sei), Thiagarajan Kumararaja (Aaranya Kaandam) and Santha Kumar (Mouna Guru) were also in the race.
