Nanban – Tamil Movie Review |

Directon: Shankar
Star Cast: Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Ileana,Sathyaraj, Sathyan S.J Surya, Anuya
Story: Abhijat Joshi Rajkumar Hirani
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa
Banner: Gemini Film Circuit
It is been long time that we saw such a colourful and energetic movie like this. Thanks to Shankar and his team who have made this wonderful film that is both emotional and entertaining.
Expectations were high for the film for the fact that Shankar and Vijay have come together for the first time for a movie. And, for Shankar this is his next after the mammoth production and blockbuster hit superstar’s ‘Endhiran’! For Vijay, this is his next to the successful ‘Velayudham‘!
Nanban tells the story of three Engineering students who come from different backgrounds with different goal in their lives. Pari (Vijay), Senthil (Jeeva) and Venkatramakrishnan are the three friends who are very close friends in the class.
Pari wants to see studies that should be useful to our lives and doesn’t believe in memorizing subjects like what Srivatsan (Satyan), who is the darling of professor Santhanam (Sathyaraj). The three boys incur the wrath of the professor, but as the story goes on the professor slowly realizes the real personalities of the three friends. Pari loves professor’s daughter Riya (Ileana), a medical college student. After their course completion what the boys become in their lives is told later that should be watched on the silver screen.
We see a different Vijay, doing the role Pari. What a performance! It’s really a treat to all Vijay fans. The performance of Jeeva and Srikanth are also extraordinary. The chemistry between these three stars could be seen in every scene they are together.
Another big performance is from veteran actor Satyaraj. He, as Professor Virumandi Santhanam, has lived the role. And, for Satyan, this is the best film that he can boast in his career.
Ileana as the love interest of Vijay is cute and attractive. Her acting and dance movements in the film will definitely bring big offers and she would do a big round in Kollywood! S.J Suryah and Anuya Bhagawat have done cameo appearances.
Shankar does not have any introduction to the hard work he puts in his films. He has proved it in many of his films. And, Nanban is another milestone movie in his list of big films but differently, for Nanban being totally an emotional drama with visuals that is a whole riot of colours! Every frame of the film speaks Shankar‘s hard work and creative brain. Hats off, Shankar!
‘Nanban‘ is a Tamil remake of 2009 Bollywood blockbuster ‘3 Idiots‘. The title roles in Hindi were played by Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. Kareena Kapoor‘s role is played by Ileana in ‘Nanban‘. Sathyaraj excels the professor role that Boman Irani had in ‘3 Idiots‘.
Original story was adapted from Chetan Bhagat‘s novel ‘Five Point Someone‘. The screenplay for Nanban is written by Shankar and Madhan Karky.
Music is by Harris Jayaraj. The Shankar – Harris Jayaraj duo had created a magic earlier with their film ‘Anniyan‘. The same magic has been created with ‘Nanban‘ too. The songs are already a rage with youngsters and music lovers and topping the charts. The background score too adds strength to the script.
Manoj Paramahamsa has done the camera work, a big plus to ‘Nanban’. The lens man has taken his camerawork to next level. Editing by Anthony is also worth mentioning.
Nanban is produced by Gemini Film Circuit in a whopping budget of Rs.60 Crore. The film is also dubbed in Telugu with a title ‘3 Rascals‘.
Nanban is definitely a big treat for both Shankar and Vijay fans, and a wholesome entertainment for everyone who loves good cinema!
Nanban is a film that is sure a watchable. A must watch!

Simbu’s Love Anthem bags bronze award from YouTube

Actor Simbu’s latest vide album Love Anthem has managed to win YouTube’s bronze award for the number of hits/downloads it has recorded in recent times. The song has apparently been made by Simbu in order to match contemporary star Dhanush’s highly successful and hugely popular song Why this Kolaveri di from his yet-to-be released film 3.
Dhanush’s song, sung and penned by him, went on to get as many as 3 crore hits on YouTube in the form of listening and downloading. The song even breached the linguistic barriers as it became a huge hit in other States as well on non-Tamil television channels where it is regularly played out to meet popular demand.
In order to match Dhanush in terms of garnering popularity through a single song, Simbu though of a novel idea and searched the dictionary in detail to find out words meaning ‘love’ in different languages in the country and the rest of the world. He sung the song and got Sony Music to popularize the same through Youtube. PRO Nikhil Murugan did a great job in assisting Simbu in promoting the song.
As the hits crossed the one-million mark, YouTube has announced a bronze award for the song. It may be recalled that the Kolaveri…. song received the gold-star award from YouTube for the record number of hits it received. Awards apart, it was indeed ironical that Simbu had referred himself as ‘Superstar Simbu’ in the press hand-outs he issued to announce to the press about bagging the bronze honour.

Angelina Jolie to do cameo in Simbu’s Podaa Podi!

Silambarasan aka Simbu, who was recently looking out for an international singer for his prestigious peace album, The Love Anthem, seems to have bitten by a Hollywood bug. We hear that the Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa star, for his delayed project Podaa Podi, wants a Hollywood actress to do a cameo in his forthcoming film and Angelina Jolie is on his wish list.
Sources say that a scene in Podaa Podi demands an international star and Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox are being considered for it. Confirming the news, director Vignesh Shivan says that they are in the hunt for the Hollywood face and Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, along with the couple, Angelina and Brad Pitt are also in the race.
Explaining further, the filmmaker claims that in Podaa Podi, there is a scene where chief guests have to choose best dancers of a reality show in the climax and the sequence requires international celebs. The movie bosses are planning to shoot it in London.
Podaa Podi marks the debut of veteran actor Sarath Kumar’s daughter Varalaxmi. The movie also features Shobhana, Ganesh, Santhanam and others in the cast.

It’s official: Vijay out of Seeman’s Pagalavan

Director-actor Seeman and Ilayathalapathy Vijay came together ‘in principle’ during the Assembly elections held in the State to make a film together. Stung by the erstwhile ruling party’s efforts to stall the release of his Kaavalan, Vijay’s fans campaigned for Amma’s AIADMK and its allies in the elections. Seeman, who too didn’t see eye-to-eye with DMK, aligned himself with Amma’s party and campaigned for her.
After finding themselves on the same side of the fence, Seeman decided to make Pagalavan starring Vijay in the lead. Vijay, who heard the script and liked it, said at the press-meet early this year (held in connection with the release of Kaavalan) that he loved the script narrated to him by Seeman but didn’t commit himself to saying as to when the project would get going.
‘Kalaipuli’ Thaanu had said on his part that he was proud to be producing Pagalavan and added that it would be a sort of a ‘dream’ project for him. These statements by Vijay and Thaanu led one to believe that the film would be launched soon after the change of guard in the State. Seeman, however, appears to be concentrating more on the political front as he goes about developing his Naam Thamizhar outfit.
Vijay, in the meanwhile, is said to have decided not to do Pagalavan as he didn’t want himself to be seen as propagating Seeman’s views and in publicizing the latter’s stand on various political issues. Seeman, when contacted, did confirm that Vijay was not part of the project but refused to let out the reason behind Vijay dropping out of the project.
“At present, I’m busy fighting for various political issues for the sake of Tamils. I don’t have time to concentrate in making movies. As such, Pagalavan won’t start in the near future; even when I launch it, some other actor other than Vijay would play the lead role. In fact, I’m even planning to make Kobam first and then decide about making Pagalavan,” said Seeman.

“Me in bikini”! Trisha is furious

After acting in the hit film Mankatha, Trisha is pairing with Venkatesh in the Telugu film titled Body Guard.
Since she is busy in Telugu films, she not seen much in Tamil films. There are news that young actors are refusing to pair with Trisha because she has become old and also that she has demanded Rs 25 Lakhs to act wearing bikini dress.
When Trisha asked about this, she said, “People who say that I have become older let them come and see me in my film Bodyguard.
I am looking today as I looked in Varsham a few years ago. What is wrong if I have become older? Aishwarya Rai and Sridevi had also acted with talent even though they have become old.
There is no connection between acting and age. I am only 29 years age old. This age is enough for me to stay in the cinema field. There is also news that I have demanded Rs 25 Lakhs extra to act in bikini dress.
Why should I act wearing bikini dress? I have certain limitations and rules. I follow them. There is also a talk that I am trying to imitate Asin and Nayanthara in the film Bodyguard which was also made in Tamil and Malayalam.
I have my own style and that is why I am one of the leading actresses in Tamil and Telugu film industries. Why should I imitate others? There is news that I am going to Bollywood. All these are mere rumours. I like Chennai only.”

Namitha finds her dream boy..!!!

Namitha did not have any big release in 2011 and her movies disappeared in the blink of an eye from theatres. This was the time when she got more time to divert her attention from films and she successfully ventured into construction field. However, during the period, the actress also gave a thought on changing her ‘single’ status. Now, we hear that she has found her dream boy.
If the latest rumours are anything to go by, Namitha has started liking a lawyer. It is said that he was her pillar of strength, when she jumped into the construction field. His helping attitude and business knowledge impressed the voluptuous girl. Now, her proximity and friendship with him have gone to next step, as the Billa actress is in love.
However, Namitha is yet to convey her love for the boy, who is still a mystery for her fans. It may be recalled that the actress was earlier linked up with a businessman named Bharat Kapoor.

After his 7aum Arivu, actor Suriya is back with his Ayan director for his next film titled Maatraan which again has Kajal Aggarwal as his heroine. Though Suriya’s role is kept under wraps, it is said that the actor would be playing 5 different characters in the film.
Simbu would do his best to release his Poda Podi opposite Varalakshmi (daughter of Sarath Kumar) and directed by Vignesh Siva. The shooting of his Vettai Mannan opposite Hansika is also proceeding briskly.

Shruthi Hassan – Dhanush Affair; Rajinikanth warned Dhanush

The hot rumour rounds in Kollywood is the close affair between Dhanush and his ’3′ movie heroine Shruthi. According to newspaper reports, the first family of Kollywood is worrying on this and the super star has warned Dhanush to came out from the new affair.
It seems that people around Superstar are not going to let him live in peace who was hospitalized and recovered by doctors efforts and fans love, prayers.
News (not rumor) in a leading English daily has created a very big rustle in Kollywood. It is Dhanush – Sruthi getting close.
News are out saying that Dhanush is getting very close to Sruthi who is his co-star in the movie 3,which has exploded as a problem in Rajini’s family. It also adds up that Rajini and his wife Latha had to talk to Dhanush’s dad Kasthuriraja about this.
“We are worried about Aishwarya’s stituation. Talk to your son immediately about this. Can this situation will be set right….or should we handle this in a different way” was asked from Rajini’s side.
Kasthuriraja has promised to sort this out soon.
It has been told that Sruthi was in love with someone in Mumbai and had lived with him for a while. It is also said that she also lived with Telugu actor Siddarth (with Kamal’s blessings), then broke up with him as well.
She acted in 3 only after her break up with Siddarth, who actually replaced Amala Paul, who was actually signed for the movie by Aishwarya. Now this itself has turned against Aishwarya.
It seems that Dhanush had gone for a party with Sruthi on New year ignoring Aishwarya’s birthday. On hearing this Rajini had become very upset.
Dhanush had never missed parties organised by young heroines like Tammana,Poonam Bajwa. The historic hit of Kolaveri song has added up with news friends to Dhanush in Mumbai, told the sources close to Rajini.
It s also told that he was very close to Nayathara after the movie “Yaaradi nee Mohini”,which made him to make her stay in a Star Hotel in Guindy. This came to an end when Rajini warned Dhanush in his own style. Now this affair with Shruthi ahs created a rustle.

Dhanush gets little out of ‘Kolaveri di’!

‘Kolaveri di’ track has made Dhanush a household name not only in India but other countries too. However, it is surprising to note that the actor reaped a very less financial profits from his sensation Tamil song.
In fact, Dhanush, who never expected his ‘Kolaveri di’ to become such a massive hit, sold the rights of the song to Sony Music for a less price. Well, this has clipped his wings and he has no control over the track.
The son-in-law of Rajinikanth has to take permission from Sony Music if he wants to make a new version of ‘Kolaveri di’. The other versions have to be made in association with the Sony and not other audio companies. It can also be noted that the actor has lost the rights of the Bollywood version.
With new versions of ‘Kolaveri di’ taking birth, Dhanush has no choice but can only sing for other versions if Sony Music wishes him to croon and get paid for it.

One of the most expected Tamil films of this year has just crossed the Censor Board’s table, and it has been stamped with a clean ‘U’ certificate. ‘Nanban’ is director Shankar’s produce. Shankar who does his own scripting for his films has deviated from his usual style for the first time, and is going in for a remake this time around with ‘Nanban.

Veteran actor Satyaraj will the done the role of Virumandi Santhanam (Virus), the dreaded professor and Sathyan will appear as Srivatsan. Director SJ Suriya too has a small but pivotal role to perform.
The music for ‘Nanban’ by Harris Jayaraj, which was launched a few days ago from Coimbatore is doing very good sales. With a lot of peppy numbers and friendly tunes and Shankar’s trademark “grandeur,” ‘Nanban’ is all set to release on January 12th right on time for the Pongal weekend.
Expectations are already sky high because of the names involved with the project. Shankar has grouped in the best crew in the industry. Antony is the editor, cinematography is by ManojParamahamsa and music is by Harris. A song has been choreographed by Bollywood’s Farah Khan. So this Pongal get ready to experience a lot of colour, comedy, joy and emotion because ‘Nanban’ is coming to entertain you on January 12, 2012!
