It’s official: Vijay out of Seeman’s Pagalavan

Director-actor Seeman and Ilayathalapathy Vijay came together ‘in principle’ during the Assembly elections held in the State to make a film together. Stung by the erstwhile ruling party’s efforts to stall the release of his Kaavalan, Vijay’s fans campaigned for Amma’s AIADMK and its allies in the elections. Seeman, who too didn’t see eye-to-eye with DMK, aligned himself with Amma’s party and campaigned for her.
After finding themselves on the same side of the fence, Seeman decided to make Pagalavan starring Vijay in the lead. Vijay, who heard the script and liked it, said at the press-meet early this year (held in connection with the release of Kaavalan) that he loved the script narrated to him by Seeman but didn’t commit himself to saying as to when the project would get going.
‘Kalaipuli’ Thaanu had said on his part that he was proud to be producing Pagalavan and added that it would be a sort of a ‘dream’ project for him. These statements by Vijay and Thaanu led one to believe that the film would be launched soon after the change of guard in the State. Seeman, however, appears to be concentrating more on the political front as he goes about developing his Naam Thamizhar outfit.
Vijay, in the meanwhile, is said to have decided not to do Pagalavan as he didn’t want himself to be seen as propagating Seeman’s views and in publicizing the latter’s stand on various political issues. Seeman, when contacted, did confirm that Vijay was not part of the project but refused to let out the reason behind Vijay dropping out of the project.
“At present, I’m busy fighting for various political issues for the sake of Tamils. I don’t have time to concentrate in making movies. As such, Pagalavan won’t start in the near future; even when I launch it, some other actor other than Vijay would play the lead role. In fact, I’m even planning to make Kobam first and then decide about making Pagalavan,” said Seeman.
